Treb's Repair

About Treb's Repair

East of Mitchell the James River valley loosens into low draws and shelterbelts, and in late summer the light turns gold across it around seven in the evening. Treb's Repair works in that light — the last yard of the day, the mower ticking as it cools, cut grass hanging in air that has finally given up its heat. Lawn care here follows a rhythm the Dakota sun and the sudden rains set: mowing on schedule, trimming close around foundations, mailboxes and fence posts, edging the walks, and clearing the yard when the season turns and the leaves come down all at once. Nothing fancy about any of it. But a yard kept honest all summer shows it in September, when the grain trucks are running and the rest of town is dust and hurry.
