Mitchell wakes up around the James River valley with the Corn Palace's onion domes catching the first light before most of downtown does, and a morning storm here means clearing a town that's busier and bigger than most of the towns around it. This crew works a mix of routes, quiet neighborhood streets on one side of the James, busier lots nearer downtown and the highway on the other, each needing its own pace and timing. Lake Mitchell sits just north of town holding its own pocket of colder air, and driveways closest to the water tend to ice a little faster than the rest. A city this size means more corners to clear before people are out the door for work, so the route starts wide and works inward toward downtown as the morning goes. By the time Main Street traffic picks up, the lots and walks along it are already down to bare pavement.
