Martin sits out on the open grass country of south-central South Dakota, where the land rolls just enough to catch and hold the wind, and a plowed driveway can drift half shut again before the truck's even back at the shop. This crew works ranch lanes and in-town streets both, reading each property for where the wind will pile it worst against a fence line or a machine shed. A long approach out to a ranch yard gets the same care as a short driveway on a side street in town, blade angled to throw the snow clear of where the next truck needs to turn around. There's a rhythm to working ground this open: watch the sky, get ahead of the drift, come back if the wind changes its mind overnight. By the time cattle need tending or the highway into town needs to be reachable, the lane is already open.
