On the edge of Freeman near the Academy, the black dirt fields that run right up to the newer streets turn the same flat white as everything else once a storm passes through, erasing the line between farmland and the last row of houses. Koerner Construction plows the driveways along those newer blocks, clearing routes it also uses to move equipment for its regular building work. The crew works those streets before turning to the older grid closer to downtown, covering both the newest part of Freeman and its original blocks in the same morning. Hutchinson County's open farm ground on every side means wind has a long run before it hits town, packing snow hard against the last houses before the fields begin. By midmorning the newer streets near the Academy sit plowed and distinct again, a dark grid laid back down over the white field it was cut from.
