About Coastal Turf

Charleston's sea breeze makes it up the Ashley to Summerville most afternoons, carrying the salt-and-pine smell that tells you exactly where you are. Turf here lives in sandy ground under hard sun: centipede that resents being scalped, Bermuda that wants a low and frequent cut, St. Augustine spreading toward the shade. Getting that right is the whole job — mowing at the height the grass actually wants, edging clean along concrete, trimming and blowing so nothing is left behind. Through the long green months the schedule is weekly and unbending; in winter the turf goes tan and the work turns to cleanup and bed lines. A lawn that holds its color and its edges is worth the discipline.
