Highway 11 runs the foot of the Blue Ridge past Pumpkintown, and in October the visitors come for the color while the yards underneath it fill with everything that falls. Great American Landscaping works that side of Pickens through the turn of the year, the mowing thinning out as the cleanup thickens up. Leaves get raked from the shrub beds and the fence corners and blown clear of the drive, and the lawn gets its late cuts kept even. Cool nights and warm afternoons make for the easiest working weather the county gets. It is a fine season to leave a yard looking swept.
