Around one o'clock the ocean breeze comes up over Pawleys Island and everything leans a little inland — the sea oats, the wax myrtle, the flag on somebody's porch rail. The Yard Crew works in that wind: mowing, edging, trimming, and hauling off the clippings and blown-in debris a coastal yard turns out all year. Salt air is hard on everything it touches, so the lawns that look good here are the ones somebody stays after. A sharp edge along a shell driveway is a small thing that changes how a whole cottage reads from the road. Loading up at the end of a route with the water glinting behind you is a fine way to close out a day.
