Spring Green

About Spring Green

There is one week in late winter when Greer decides to be green again — the sun leans a little longer, the fescue answers, and every lawn in town shows exactly how it was treated the year before. Spring Green works toward that week: fertilization timed to the turn, weed control ahead of the first flush, aeration through compacted clay, overseeding to thicken whatever thinned out in the August heat, mowing once the growth takes hold. Turf here has to get through humid summers and short damp winters, which is a great deal to ask of a plant. Given what it needs, it obliges beautifully. The proof is underfoot, barefoot, in April.
