Topp's Lawn Care

About Topp's Lawn Care

February in Columbia is a working month: the grass dormant and tan, the old Olympia and Granby smokestacks standing plain against a sky with no leaves in the way. Topp's Lawn Care uses that bare stretch to get ahead — hauling off winter's fallen limbs and matted leaves, cutting hard edges back into the walks, clearing beds down to open soil so nothing has to be fought through come April. When the first warm week finally wakes the lawns, the mowers begin their rounds, and aeration loosens the packed ground along mill-village streets where the yards are small and much walked upon. Evenings still come early then, and the blocks off Rosewood go quiet and blue while the last of the debris gets loaded. The unglamorous half of the year is where the other half gets decided.
