Southern Roots

About Southern Roots

Late in the day the live oaks along the lanes off Bluffton Road throw long arms of shade, and the grass beneath them asks for a different touch than the open sun does. Southern Roots reads those yards one at a time — mowing lighter under the moss-hung limbs, trimming close to root flares without scarring them, keeping shrub lines shaped so the beds stay open and breathing. Mulch goes down dark around azaleas and palmettos, and the leaf litter that gathers in the corners gets carried off rather than pushed around. Evening is when the work shows best, when the shadows fall across a cut lawn and every line is where it ought to be. It is steady, unhurried care for places that have been growing here a long while.
