Late in the day, when the sun drops toward the west side of town, a lawn finally tells the truth about itself — every low spot and mower scalp shows up as a shadow. Top Dressing exists for exactly those shadows: core aeration to open compacted Piedmont clay, sand and compost worked into the surface, low areas leveled, overseeding behind it so the fill grows in instead of just sitting there. It is slow, unglamorous work through late summer and early fall, and it is the one thing that actually cures a bumpy yard. A season on, the shadows are gone, the mower rides flat, and the turf stands thicker for having somewhere to root. Anderson yards, taken one dip and one pass at a time.
