Xscape Landscape works the hillsides above the Blackstone River, where Woonsocket's brick mills throw long shadows across yards that tilt and climb away from the water. The work is plain and satisfying: weekly or biweekly mowing through the humid stretch of summer, mulch and loam and stone delivered and set by hand, tree and shrub trimming that opens a yard back up to the light. Spring cleanups pull winter out of the beds, fall leaf removal clears the maples off the grass before the ground goes hard, and sod, releveling, stump removal, plant installation, retaining walls and custom design give a property the shape it will keep. When snow buries the valley, they plow drives and lots clear while the streetlights are still burning. From Woonsocket out through North Smithfield, Lincoln, Smithfield, Cumberland, Burrillville, Johnston and Pawtucket and over the line into Blackstone and Bellingham, the reward is the same one every time — a crisp edge, an open walk, a yard that holds its season.
