Arctic is a village, not a forecast — a bend of Main Street in West Warwick, a stretch of the Pawtuxet running behind the buildings, porches and storefronts standing shoulder to shoulder. Arctic Mowing works those blocks in July, when heat settles into the valley and the grass grows faster than any one household can keep up with. The mower goes back and forth in even passes until the lawn holds its stripes, and the trimmer takes the fence line and the base of the maple. Clippings are swept off the walk, the gate is latched again, and the yard is left quiet. It is a small thing to hand somebody at the end of a hot afternoon, and it is a good one.
