West Greenwich is mostly woods — oak and white pine over granite ledge, old stone walls running off into the trees, the Big River country lying quiet toward the Pawcatuck headwaters. Downspout works the houses tucked back in that forest and the buildings down along Nooseneck Hill: soft-washing siding and roofs, running glass until the window all but disappears, pulling an autumn's worth of oak leaf out of gutters so the water has somewhere to go. There is a plain satisfaction in what it leaves behind — a house that reads clean from the road, pavers sealed and holding their color, a downspout that answers the first hard rain without a word. Come December they run holiday lighting along the eaves, and when the storms come down over the hills they clear the snow, which is the same instinct really: keep the weather moving off a building instead of into it. Their work reaches across all of Rhode Island, into eastern Connecticut, and parts of southern Massachusetts.
