There is a kind of drawing that only happens in winter: a parking lot laid out in clean bands of black, piles set in the corners, every curb line found again. Avalon Design Group, LLC does that drawing with a plow, out on the roads running west from Weaver Hill toward the Connecticut line where West Greenwich thins into forest and old stone wall. Storms fall heavier on this inland ground than they do down by the water, and they keep falling after the shore has quit. So the trucks go back through — a second pass, a third — until the walkways are cut square and the sand is down where the grade wants to send a car sideways. Come morning it all looks effortless, which is the entire point.
