Smithfield sits where the Woonasquatucket valley begins to climb, and the winter light there arrives low and pewter over the reservoirs long before the first flakes touch the ledge. That hour before a storm is the one this shop is built for — when a blade needs a mount that fits, a controller that answers, a hydraulic line that will not quit at two in the morning. From a yard in Smithfield they sell used snowplows, sanders and trucks, install them, keep motors, wiring, mounts and hydraulic parts on the shelf, and buy plows back when a rig changes hands. Sitting central to Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont and New Hampshire means the work travels: a plow fitted here goes on to open a mill-street driveway in one state and a farm lane in another. There is a quiet pride in that — the long, clean pass down a lot at dawn, made possible by a bolt turned right in an orchard town weeks earlier.
