Green Evolutions LLC works out of Scituate, where the reservoir keeps its wide gray patience behind the trees and old stone walls run off into second-growth woods that were pasture once. The work runs from core aeration, slice seeding and soil top dressing on tired lawns to organic fertilization, dethatching, weeding, mulching and bed edging, precision pruning, trimming and planting of trees and shrubs, and garden design that turns a plot or a rooftop into something productive. Farther east, where Rhode Island runs out into sand, they set native vegetation into dune and shoreline to hold the ground against the wind. It is slow, particular, physical work, and the proof of it is plain: a lawn that thickens where it had thinned, a dune that keeps its sand.
