Farrell Landscaping works the salt-washed ground of Narragansett, where glacial stone sits just under the topsoil and the wind off Point Judith has an opinion about everything you plant. Their trade runs to weight and shape: excavators, dozers and Bobcats moving earth at scale, retaining walls set to hold a slope for good, patios laid flat and true, trees taken down and whole lots cleared back to open sky. There is a quiet satisfaction in a wall that still reads straight from the road years on, in a yard that finally drains, in stone that looks like it was always meant to be there. Come the grey months, when the coast goes hard and the light turns low over the marsh, the machines turn to clearing snow instead. From the Pier out through South Kingstown, Charlestown and Westerly, up the bay to Jamestown and the Greenwiches, they build the kind of work that intends to stay put.
