There is a half hour after sunrise in East Greenwich when the low ground near the Maskerchugg still holds its mist and the grass is heavy enough to keep a footprint. fernflo works those mornings, mowing and tending yards on the softer, wetter west side of town where the cedar swamp keeps the air cool longer than it has any right to. Damp ground asks for patience: waiting out the dew, cutting high in the shade, keeping a clean trim line where lawn gives way to fern and stone. The season starts early here and finishes green, and every yard has its own margin between the mown and the wild. Drawing that line well is most of the pleasure of the job.
