On a June evening Pascoag Reservoir goes flat as glass, and the smell of cut grass drifts down toward the water from every yard on the hill. My Fresh Yard works those Burrillville lawns — Pascoag, Oakland, Mapleville, Glendale — mowing, trimming and edging while the days run long. Sandy soil in one spot, clay and ledge two streets over, and it teaches you to change your line and your cutting height from property to property. Spring cleanups pull the winter sand and the flattened leaves off the turf so the sun can finally reach it. Fall cleanups do the reverse, and in between the aim never shifts: a yard that looks fresh from the mailbox to the back fence.
