Late October on the back roads between Zionsville and Macungie: corn stubble, woodsmoke, and oak leaves coming down faster than anyone can keep up with. Grass on this southern shelf of the Lehigh Valley will run all season if it is fed, and it looks right cut a little high and cut often. There is a version of a yard in November that is completely bare of leaves and still completely green, and getting a place to that is worth the long afternoon.
