The first flakes of a Wilkes-Barre storm usually show themselves under the streetlights on the Market Street Bridge, drifting sideways over black water. Driveways get plowed to the pavement, walks and steps get shoveled clear, and the icy corners — shaded landings, north-facing aprons — get treated before anybody has to find them the hard way. The valley funnels wind, so what falls does not always stay put, and a drift can rebuild itself across an open drive in an hour. Coming back a second time is not a complaint here; it is simply the job.
