Burk's Lawncare

About Burk's Lawncare

Early along Kennywood Boulevard the Monongahela shows up as a strip of pewter between the trees, and that is the hour Burk's Lawncare likes best for mowing. Grass cut before the heat sets has a spring to it — the passes lie down straight, and the line where turf meets the sidewalk reads like it was drawn with a pencil. In January the same route becomes snow work: pushing back what stacked at the top of the drive, taking a walk down to bare pavement so nobody has to guess where the step is. West Mifflin asks a lot of a small outfit, with its short blocks and long climbs, and answering that is satisfying in a way that is hard to explain until the truck pulls away and the yard simply looks right.
