Winter comes into Watsontown sideways, crossing the river from the west with the whole valley open in front of it. Top Rock Design/Landscape answers that with plowing and shoveling — driveways, lots and walkways opened while the streetlights are still on, so nobody has to think twice about getting out. Come the green half of the year the same trucks carry mowers, and the work turns to cutting, trimming, edging and seasonal cleanup along Route 405 and the farm roads either side of it. There is a shared pleasure in both jobs: the black pavement showing through at dawn, the straight edge of turf against a driveway in June. One valley, two kinds of weather, and a route that runs through all of it.
