Wilmy Scapes

About Wilmy Scapes

A squall blows across Upper Darby overnight, and by first light the row of stoops in Stonehurst is one unbroken white shelf, every set of steps indistinguishable from the next. Wilmy Scapes goes down that line and gives each one its edges back — shovel-width walks, steps cleared to the tread, driveways opened wide enough that a car can swing in without touching the bank. Out toward Darby Creek, where the wind crosses open ground and rebuilds a drift about as fast as you can move it, the plow makes a second pass and the salt follows behind. Snow work gets measured in small exact victories: a clear path to a door, a lot a delivery truck can turn around in. By the time the sun clears the rooftops the block is walkable again, and the day can start.
