In late June the light over Stewartstown holds on past nine o'clock, laying long gold stripes across the hayfields east of the borough. Extend Your Day takes its name at face value, running the mower and the string trimmer into the cool end of an evening when the heat has finally let go of the ground. The work is simple and it shows: grass cut to an even height, borders trimmed back to a hard line, clippings gone before dark. In January the instinct reverses — out ahead of daylight, plowing and salting so a driveway is open while the sky is still slate over the ridge toward Fawn Grove. Both ends of the day belong to somebody around here, and this is one way of handing them back.
