Carters Cuts

About Carters Cuts

Mid-June in the borough smells like cut grass by nine in the morning, and a good share of that is Carters Cuts working its way up the short blocks. The front lawns of Spring City aren't big — a strip of green between the stoop and the sidewalk on many streets, wider yards as you climb away from the river — and every one of them asks for a slightly different line. Mowing, string trimming, edging and clipping cleanup: the list is short, and doing it well is the entire point. A yard reads twice its size when the grass is even and the borders are cut sharp. That's the result worth chasing, week after week, straight through summer.
