Significant Landscapes

About Significant Landscapes

Winter reaches South Strabane Township from the west, crossing Washington County in a gray line, and the hills make sure it lands unevenly — drifted on the open ridge, packed hard in the hollows. Significant Landscapes plows through all of it: driveways and lots opened, walkways cleared, salt and ice control on the grades where footing goes first. Nights like that run backward, starting around two in the morning and finishing about when the places along the Route 19 corridor unlock their doors. The measure of the work is visible from the road — black pavement, a squared bank at the pavement's edge, a car that gets out. That is what the township leans on when it comes down hard.
