About 1st Brigade Inc.

Storms come into South Hanover Township on a west wind off the Susquehanna and pile up across the limestone farms between Hummelstown and the Swatara. 1st Brigade Inc. works those hours, plowing driveways and lots, clearing entryways and walks, and laying salt where the shade keeps ice hard past noon. The shift starts long before the first commuter is awake and runs until the last row is stacked clean at the edge of the pavement. There is real pride in a driveway opened to bare surface while a porch light is still the only light on the street. Route 39, the farm lanes, and the neighborhoods running toward Hershey and Middletown make up the round.
