Snyders Home Maintenance

About Snyders Home Maintenance

Winter arrives early up in the hollows and leaves late, and the roads that wind between the ridges hold their snow long after the valleys have let go. Snyders Home Maintenance is out in the dark hours of it, plowing driveways and shoveling walks so a truck can reach the road and a carrier can reach the door. There is a stretch of morning — four-thirty, headlights full of falling flakes, blade down — that belongs entirely to the people who do this work. By the time Snyder Township is awake the drive is open, the banks are pushed back wide enough to take a second storm, and the steps are salted down to bare tread. It is a plain kind of usefulness, and it is the whole point of the job.
