About Derick Nye the Tree Guy

Squalls come off South Mountain in a gray wall, and the farm lanes east of Shippensburg drift shut in the open stretches where nothing breaks the wind. Derick Nye the Tree Guy takes on that kind of snow — plowing long driveways, pushing back the drifts that pile against a barn wall, opening lots, and salting where shade holds a glaze past noon. The job is finished when a truck can turn around without giving it a thought. Winter afternoons out here go blue early, and there is a particular pleasure in wrapping up a route just as the ridge line goes dark. Come the next storm, the route begins again.
