Seward is a small Westmoreland County borough on the Conemaugh River, tucked where the water slips out from between steep wooded ridges on its way west. Challenger works the yards of this narrow river town. With the hills so close, yards here are often pocket-sized or set on a grade, and valley heat makes the grass surge after every summer rain. Mowing on schedule, trimming around posts and porches and a neat finish along the road keep each property looking at home beneath the mountains. Late on a July afternoon, with the river glinting and ridge shadows reaching across town, the job is done and the lawn looks the part.
