A few miles south of Sayre the Chemung gives itself to the Susquehanna at Tioga Point, and in October the whole bottomland goes copper at once. Nick's Landscaping works that stretch of the calendar hard — the last mowings, the leaf cleanups, beds trimmed back before frost. Earlier in the year it is mowing and trimming, mulch laid into the beds, edges recut where the grass has crept over. The reward is a lawn raked bare and bright at dusk with the smell of cold river on the air. Homes in Sayre, Athens, South Waverly and Ulster keep the calendar full.
