Salix sits up in the Cambria County highlands, a few ridges east of Johnstown and just over the hill from the old South Fork valley, where winter arrives early and stays to argue. Moyer Concrete runs snow removal through those months, plowing driveways and lots, clearing walks, spreading salt so ice never gets a foothold underfoot. Mountain snow here comes deep and comes often, and a storm can close a road while the coffee is still brewing. There is a particular quiet to being out at four in the morning with the blade down, opening a drive before the first alarm goes off inside the house. By daylight the place looks like nothing happened at all, which is exactly the point.
