Roots in the Cove

About Roots in the Cove

On the coldest mornings the big spring in town steams while everything around it is frozen white — the one thing in Roaring Spring that never quite gives in to winter. Roots in the Cove is out in that same cold, clearing driveways, walks and steps across the borough so a doorway stays a doorway and not a snowbank. Plowing, shoveling the tight spots a truck can't reach, and treating ice on the shaded stretch of a sidewalk. Snow here can be a dusting or a two-day sit-down, and both get the same early start. There is something plainly good about a swept front walk on a cold blue morning, with the chimney smoke going straight up. Serving Roaring Spring, Martinsburg, Claysburg and the Cove roads.
