Zomerfelds Hauling

About Zomerfelds Hauling

Storms come over the ridges into Pittston and fill the valley from the bottom up, which means the driveways down near the river are the last to see a plow and the first to need one. Zomerfelds Hauling runs ahead of the sunrise: drives opened, walks cleared to the door, lots pushed back into their corners, salt down where ice would otherwise set for the day. When the banks get too tall to shove any further, the snow is loaded and carried off rather than parked in front of somebody's mailbox. Headlights on an untouched driveway at four in the morning make a particular kind of quiet. By the time the rest of the town's headlights come on, the way out is already there.
