Steel City Snow Control

About Steel City Snow Control

From Grandview Avenue at two in the morning the city is a bowl of lights, and the only thing moving on the hill is a plow. Steel City Snow Control runs those hours — opening driveways and parking lots, shoveling walks down to the pavement, spreading salt wherever the grade has turned to glass. Mount Washington streets take snow badly: they hold it, then they slick over the moment freeze-thaw gets hold of them. The reward is small and complete, a lot swept clear before the first car comes up the ramp and steps a person can take without thinking about them. By sunrise the trucks have gone quiet again and the hill is just a hill.
