Late November on Butler Street the light goes amber around four-thirty, and the last mow of the year gets finished in it. Last Call Landscaping takes that final pass seriously, grass cut low, leaves off, beds cleaned so the lawn heads into the cold looking settled. Then the equipment changes over, and the same driveways and sidewalks that were green in October get plowed, shoveled and salted through the dark half of the year. Lawrenceville's lots run narrow and its alleys run tight, and its winters ask for somebody willing to be out at an unreasonable hour. When April comes the mower starts up again and the circle closes right where it opened.
