The Strip District wakes before the rest of Pittsburgh does, produce trucks nosing into the docks on Smallman while the Allegheny still holds its fog. Kolton Construction works that early hour all winter, plowing lots and dock aprons so the pallets can come off and the doors can open on time. Sidewalks are cleared and treated, corners are cut back so a delivery driver can see the crosswalk, and the piles go where they will not block the next truck in. Snow in a working district is a logistics problem as much as a weather one, and it gets solved one pass at a time. By the time the first shoppers walk down for coffee and flowers, the pavement is dark and wet and passable.
