About Kozees Kuts

Late afternoon on Presqueisle Street, the light goes long and gold across old brick, and a mower is still running a few blocks up. Kozees Kuts keeps the in-town lawns of Philipsburg — the narrow side yards, the strip between sidewalk and curb, the deep back lot that runs off toward the alley. Small ground asks for patience: trimming close around fence posts and porch steps, edging the walk so the line reads true, blowing the clippings off the pavement before the truck pulls away. Twice a year the cleanups come through, hauling out winter's leavings in April and the maples' whole gold argument in October. It is plain work done carefully, and a street of tidy front yards is what it adds up to.
