About Lawn Love - Philadelphia

Saturday morning on Baltimore Avenue, and the trolley rolls past while the sprinklers are still finding their rhythm. We mow and edge the deep, shaded yards of West Philadelphia, where the sycamores keep half the block cool and the grass has to be coaxed toward what light gets through. A clean line along the brick walk is the whole point — you can see it from the porch, and it makes a house look loved. Come January those same streets go silent under ice, and we are out with plow and shovel and salt, cutting a path from the front steps to the curb so nobody has to guess where the sidewalk ends. Two seasons, one block, the same care either way.
