Paradise wakes early, and in winter it wakes in the dark to the sound of a plow. Vintage Landscaping opens driveways, farm lanes and lots across this corner of Lancaster County, working ahead of the milk truck and the horse-drawn traffic that still uses these roads at first light. Snow lies differently on open Pequea farmland than it does in town — it drifts across the fields and stacks against the fencelines, and clearing it means knowing where the wind puts it. Walks get shoveled and de-iced; banks get shoved back before the next storm needs the room. When the sun finally comes up over the tobacco sheds along the Lincoln Highway, everything is already open.
