McGregor Excavating

About McGregor Excavating

Past the borough line the roads run off into hollows — Cherrytree way, Rouseville way, long gravel drives climbing up out of the creek bottoms. McGregor Excavating knows those approaches in the dark, pushing the snow back off them and salting the last pitch where ice always forms. Summer brings the other half of it: mowing wide roadside lawns, trimming the edges, keeping a place from getting away from itself between visits. There is a particular quiet on a February night when the last drive is open and the headlights swing back toward town. Then breakfast, and the ridge road again.
