Schnecksville is where the township's traffic collects — Route 309 running north and south through it, and everybody's evening errand routed across the same few lots. When snow starts falling there at four in the afternoon, E&S Property Services is already staged, because a lot that gets driven on while it fills is twice the work by midnight. Pavement gets opened in stacked passes with the piles set where they won't blind a driver pulling out, entrances scraped down, sidewalks shoveled and treated so the morning opens on bare concrete. Between storms the crew watches the shaded strips along the north walls, the places that stay slick after everything else has dried. It is unglamorous, exacting work, and a crossroads township runs on it.
