The Lincoln Highway runs through North Huntingdon Township as Route 30, and on a January weeknight its traffic thins just as snow begins filling the side streets and cul-de-sacs that curl off into the Westmoreland County hills. Mulch It Down has a name that smells like a spring flower bed, but the work offered here belongs to the cold months: snow removal. When a front pushes through and the slopes turn to glass, driveways get cleared so the morning commute can begin at the bottom of the drive instead of the middle of a drift. There is a particular pleasure in a pitched suburban driveway scraped down to dark pavement, the mailbox dug out, the walk open to the door.
