About Shaffer Tree Services

In the last week of leaf-fall the New Castle hills go quiet and bare, and you can finally see the stone walls running back through the woods above the Saw Mill River. Shaffer Tree Services likes this stretch of the year, when the structure of a tree is plain to see and every dead limb announces itself. Pruning done now sets an oak or a hemlock up for the winter load; trimming pulls a crown back off a roofline before the ice arrives. Removals on the wooded lots around Chappaqua and Millwood take planning — a long driveway, a narrow turn, big timber that has to come down between the house and the trees you are keeping. The good days end the same way: wood out, leaves raked back, and a place that looks like it was always that way.
