About Rich Gormley Jr and Company.

Winter arrives in New Castle from the northwest, in bands that peel off Lake Erie and unspool over Lawrence County until the streetlights along Highland Avenue go soft and orange. Rich Gormley Jr and Company works the hours nobody else wants — the black hours before the first coffee, when a driveway is only a rumor under six inches. Blade down, salt on the walk, the hill scraped clean so the tires can bite. There is a real pleasure in a lot finished before the sky decides to lighten: the square corners, the neat berm, the bare pavement steaming a little in the cold. Plowing, clearing, shoveling, ice control — and the point of all of it is simple, that people can leave when they need to leave.
