About Helms Home Maintenace

The alarm goes off, the window shows white, and the only question that matters in New Castle is whether the car can get to the road. Helms Home Maintenace answers that one — plowing and shoveling driveways, opening a path to the mailbox and the front steps, salting where the slope and the shade hold ice longest. Winter storms visit this town in short, sharp spells, so the whole job is timing: out during it, back after it, finished before the workday needs to start. There is a plain satisfaction in a black stripe of pavement running from a garage door to a clear street. The snow melts and nobody remembers it, which is rather the point.
