Kuceras Grass Cutting

About Kuceras Grass Cutting

Muse sits in the folded hills of Cecil Township, a coal patch laid out in short rows, and in January the whole village goes quiet under a few inches of Washington County snow. Kuceras Grass Cutting works that quiet with a plow — clearing drives and the narrow shared aprons between houses, opening walks from the door to the street, salting the steps and the shaded stretch where the pavement pitches down. Storms come in over the Ohio Valley wet and clinging, and behind them a cold that turns slush into something you can slip on for a week. So the passes go early, and the banks get set back where they will not creep in again. A cleared drive on a gray morning in Muse is a small, ordinary kindness, and it is the whole intention of the work.
