Mount Holly Springs is built in a gap, where Mountain Creek comes down out of South Mountain and the town gathers along the water. JAK Lawn Service mows the yards on those creek-side streets and up the slopes where the laurel starts, trimming close along stone walls, fence posts and the roots of old shade trees. Water is never far here, so the grass runs thick into July and the cut has to keep pace. When the mountain's leaves let go in October, the cleanup comes down the hollow behind them. The rest is straightforward: a straight line along the walk, a lawn cut level from porch to curb, and the smell of cut grass carrying uphill.
